Fellow Seekers,

Since launching the Binary Research Institute website a few years ago, we have continued to research the possibility that our Sun might be part of a binary star system. This includes investigating a number of issues related to the Sun’s motion, and the methodology of finding other celestial objects. To that end:

• In late 2002 we traveled to the outback of Australia to view a total eclipse of the Sun and discussed the Sun’s motion and related topics with Tom Van Flandern, former head of U.S. Naval Observatory. Conclusion: eclipse cycles indicate the earth moves 360 degrees around the sun in a tropical year, inconsistent with current lunisolar precession theory.

• In mid 2003 we went to the Big Island of Hawaii and The Keck Observatory and spent a good bit of the night with Geoff Marcy, Professor of Astronomy at UC Berkley, as he searched for extra-solar planets (he and his team have found more than 70 so far!). Conclusion: we know less than 1% of the universe and it is likely there will be a number of discoveries over the next few decades that require us to remodel local space.

• We have also met personally, or most often, through the Internet, with a number of astrophysicists and astronomers around the world and discussed the topic of precession and its nuances. Conclusion: precession it is one of the least understood topics in science today!
To help bring greater awareness to the issue of precession (which we believe is largely a result of our Sun’s binary motion) we have written several papers on the topic and produced a film for the public entitled The Great Year.

The Great Year goes beyond astronomical research to link the binary motion with Plato’s “Great Year”, the period of time it takes the equinox to traverse through all twelve constellations of the zodiac (precession of the equinox), or one binary orbit. Narrated by James Earl Jones, the film includes interviews with archaeologists, professors of history and astronomy, and other experts all describing facets of the Great Year or the possibility of a binary motion. Our goal was to make the subject interesting (includes 18 minutes of animation and original music scores) and raise awareness of the profound implications of the binary motion. Please go to www.TheGreatYear.com if you would like to order a copy of the DVD, we think you will enjoy it!

If the binary motion and the Great Year are as the Ancients believed, then additional investigation needs to be done to explore exactly how remote stellar objects might influence our solar system and Earth (one hypothesis: EM forces interacting with the Earth’s magnetosphere as the binary motion moves us in and out of an EM field). On this subject we have just completed a Power Point presentation entitled “The Cosmic Influence”. This talk was delivered in March 2004 at the Price Theater at UCSD. If you or your school or club or organization would like to see the film and hear the special presentation, please contact us, and we will try to arrange this as mutually convenient.

Finally, in an effort to shed light on some of the historical references and archaeological evidence of the Great Year, we are nearing completion of our book “The Great Year and the Binary Model” (working title) which we expect to have out later this year. If you would like to receive notice when it is available, please join The Great Year Mailing List.

Our appreciation goes out to all that have helped encourage and expand upon this work – Thank You. Someday the truth will be known!

Sincerely,

Walter Cruttenden
